Murdered in the August of 1965,
Police concluded 35-year-old Jones was beaten and dumped off the Sherman Minton
Bridge in Louisville, Kentucky. After her body was pulled from the Ohio River,
the coroner determined that she was not only beaten at the time of her death
but the cause of death was drowning. The autopsy concluded that she received several blows to the head before entering the water. Her
blood-stained car was found about 10 blocks away from Shawnee Park and her shoes
were found on the park's golf course. Her purse, with its contents still intact,
was found three years after the murder by some boys climbing on the bridge. . Even though Jones' murder was never solved, Louisville Metro
Police cold case detectives reviewed the open case in 2011 and announced that
they may have a suspect in the murder.
Police interviewed a California man, who denied killing Jones, but when
subjected to a polygraph test: failed. Thus after reviewing the file and
evidence, Commonwealth’s Attorney David Stengel reported that prosecuting the
case would not be feasible, due to insufficient evidence.
